Curse You Will Wright

I’ve always been a big fan of games created by Will Wright.  For those who are unfamiliar with who he is, he’s the mastermind behind games like SimCity and The Sims.  If you have ever played one of those games, then you know how addictive they can be.  You also know that they are so engrossing that it’s possible to sit down with the intent to play for twenty minutes and get up fourteen hours later wondering where the time went.  It’s almost like time travel.

Will Wright’s most recent game is called Spore.  It is a combination of every other one of his sim games and then some.  You basically start off as a cell, eating either small plants or meat chunks.  Eventually you grow and evolve into a space faring civilization.  The fun part about it is that you get to choose how your creature evolves.  Will it have multiple eyes and spit poison?  Maybe it will be aggressive and eat other creatures?

Game On

There are a lot of video games that get played in our house. I’ve been a huge fan of them for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I loved our various consoles but the games on the computer were always my favorite. To me, classics like Donkey Kong and Pitfall couldn’t compare to what Sierra released. I spent hours and hours playing games like Quest for Glory and the King’s Quest series. Now, I see that my love for gaming is starting to manifest itself in my children.

Yesterday when I got home, Emma was could hardly wait to tell me that she had played Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets from beginning to end. She’s just like me; she can sit for hours and hours with a good game and not get tired of it. Even though she plays the game almost daily and has beaten it multiple times, she always comes back for more. We have plenty of games that she could play but she always chooses to play Harry Potter.
