I know that I’m a few days late in posting this but with the first day of school, among other things, we’ve been pretty busy. I was going to write a post for every activity that we managed to squeeze into our vacation but that’s a lot of writing, and since I just posted 162 photos in the gallery, complete with detailed narrative, I’m going to pass for now. The only thing that there are no pictures of is our trip to WaterWorld. (Expensive cameras and water slides don’t really go well together.)
We all had a really good time and we were able to get almost everything in that we wanted to do. The only thing that we didn’t do that I really wanted to is go to a hot dog stand that is shaped like a giant hot dog in Bailey, Colorado. I guess we’ll have to do it next time.

For those who would like a brief glimpse into a few of our camping trips this season, I’ve posted some pictures from our stays at Hades and Tanner’s Flat in the gallery. The gallery is still password protected so if you don’t already know the magic words to get in, just ask us and we’ll be happy to oblige.

Holly had her three month checkup today. Her doctor is a big fan of ultrasounds to monitor the health and development of the baby so, like usual, Holly came home with a new picture. Both Holly and the baby are doing well. The baby is still due to arrive in mid-January and we’re still hoping that it comes a few weeks early. December 30th works well for me.
We deiceded to tell the kids about the new arrival over the weekend. They seem to be excited, and seeing picutres of their unborn sibling only adds to that excitement. Hannah was so excited to show me the picture that instead of saying something like “It’s what’s in Mommy’s tummy.” she said “It’s what’s in the baby’s tummy.” I’m not sure if she doesn’t understand what the photo is or if her excitement just impaired her ability to convey what she was thinking. Either way, it was pretty funny.

They are here!!! At least some of them are. I got my California White chicks and Rhode Island Red chicks. The Brown Leghorns will still be a couple of weeks.I got a phone call from the farm store saying that they got some of my chicks in. I was so excited. I waited until Emma got home from school so that we all could go and bring home our baby chicks. We talked about some of the names for the chicks. So far the choices are: Gertie, Henny-Penny, Voldemort, Spots, Peep, Brownie, and Ice cream. We are still debating on some of the names. Here are some pictures of our babies.

Editors note: For more pictures of the baby chicks, check out Holly’s blog.

We have some plans for our backyard. We are going to rent a sod cutter and make a garden area. You can see the area that we have outlined in black spray paint.
Then we are also going to put in a patio at the end of the deck stairs. I am growing flowers from seed that I plan to put in along the back fence. We are also going to build a shed that will go under the deck. I am so excited for all of the plans for our yard. I will post more pictures as our work progresses.

I was talking with a friend at church the other day and he likened the Christmas season to a car accident. Despite how much preparation goes into getting ready for everything, it still manages to sneak up and leave everyone wondering what it was that just hit. Given how the past month has gone, I felt that this was a very appropriate analogy. Now that things have started to settle down, I decided that I finally better sit down and try and recap our activities over the past few weeks.

Some of you may have noticed some changes to our gallery page. I’ve recently started using the NextGEN Gallery plugin for Wordpress. I like it much better than Coppermine which is what I was using before. When combined with the WP lightbox 2 plugin, it makes a very nice gallery.
At Holly’s request, I’ve also re-enabled the password protection on the page. It’s not 100% secure since I currently have a random preview image showing in the sidebar, but it should help keep unwanted visitors from lingering a bit too long.
To go along with this new gallery format, I’ve added pictures from Halloween and Nick and Chelsea’s wedding. I’ve also added a pic of me feeding a mouse to an owl and some random images of the kids. If you would like to check them out, and don’t remember the page password, please feel free to use the contact page to let us know that you want to see things. Or, you can just give us a call and we can tell you. Whatever is easier for you.

UNOFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!
For those who have not heard yet, my sister, Chelsea, is engaged. Since it’s not my wedding, I’ve been spared from having to do too many things. One thing that I did volunteer for though is making a DVD slideshow of Chelsea and her love interest, Nick. I get to choose what pictures and music are used. Can you say “bathtub pictures”? It’s going to be fun.
On Sunday, I started going through stacks of old pictures deciding which ones I was going to use. As I was looking through Chelsea’s scrapbook, I found pictures of my graduation, when I went on my mission, our mom at an Amway convention, and my first Christmas with Holly. It was like taking a trip down memory lane.

Remember the old Tom & Jerry cartoon where Tom ran over the mother duck removing all of her feathers, thus exposing her underwear? Tom then got his comeuppance when the mother ducks boyfriend/husband/care taker ran over Tom’s back with the same mower. If you don’t remember this classic cartoon, here you go. (The stuff I’m talking about starts at about the 5:40 mark.)

Though it doesn’t show it in this episode, I know that footage exists of Tom getting run over by a mower and we actually get to see the results: a nice bald stripe right up the middle of his back. This is funny until it happens to your dog. A couple of days ago, something similar happened to our pet dog, Oscar.
