In my last post, I eluded to the fact that I have gone back to work. When I was laid off from Centercode, my boss told me that he hoped that finances would allow them to hire me back before I found a new job. I told him that I had six months worth of unemployment so the company had six months to get me hired back on. He told me that it was more likely that I’d find a new job before he could bring me back which is exactly what happened.
A few weeks ago, one of our neighbors posted a message on her Facebook page saying that if anybody knew of someone looking for a tech support job to let her know because her husband’s employer was hiring. I took my resume over to him that night and the next morning I had an email saying that the company wanted to do a phone interview with me as soon as possible.

This week Holly began orientation for her new job. Yes, that’s right. Holly has re-entered the workforce. This time though, instead of playing with surgical tools, she gets to play with real live people.
Let me start at the beginning. A few weeks back, Holly found a job posting for a LPN in the psych ward at a hospital in Ogden. It was a part time position and she was itching to start using her nursing abilities so she applied, interviewed, and got the job.
The job will be good for a few reasons. First, Holly will have better benefits than I do which is never a bad thing. It’s also an IHC facility which we learned from her stint at LDS Hospital is just plain awesome. (They treated her really well when she worked for them before.) They will also work around her school schedule which will allow her to finish her last semester of nursing school, become a RN, then move to a different department (hopefully labor and delivery.) Probably the best part though is that she’ll get experience in a medical field. Sure, she could go to work at a nursing home but who wants to do that when you can work in a psychiatric ward?

Today I had an interview with Battelle. They are a company that does IT contract work on Hill Air Force Base. I was originally introduced to them last fall when my neighbor quit his job there and recommended me as his replacement. I interviewed and did well but not well enough because I didn’t get the job.
A few weeks ago, I noticed that Battelle had an opening for the same position that I had previously interviewed for. I didn’t really have anything to lose so I sent in my resume. Surprise! I got an interview!
I wasn’t really sure how to approach this particular interview since I have already gone through this process with this company. I basically just went in and answered everything to the best of my ability. On a few of the answers, the gentlemen who were interviewing me told me that they liked my answers. That’s good, right?

A couple of days ago, I got a call from New York regarding the position that I interviewed for months ago with Goldman Sachs. The recruiter said that they still want me but don’t have the approval to hire me yet. Apparently the company had permission to interview for the position, but not to hire anybody. Things are moving at the speed of business (as my friend Carl puts it) and I’m tied up in red tape. The recruiter said that she’s seen this before and if I have the patience to wait it out, the job will be mine. It’s a good opportunity for me so I’ve decided to see what happens. I’ve scaled back on looking for jobs for the time being in hopes of somebody signing the right papers and calling me with good news.

A lot of people have been asking me about my job search. Basically nothing is going on. The position that I interviewed for at IHC seems to have been filled but not by me. I could be wrong though since they haven’t told me that I didn’t get it. I’ve been notified that I’m in the running for other positions with IHC though so I haven’t ruled them out completely.
Goldman Sachs is a different beast. I’m getting very frustrated with them. I keep getting told that they liked me and that an offer is forthcoming but that I’m stuck in red tape. I’ve been stuck in said red tape for over a month now.
I’m getting tired of being tied up in red tape so I’ve started pursuing other options quite aggressively. Last week I applied for at least half a dozen positions with other companies. Hopefully one of them will pan out. I’ll keep you all updated of any changes with my employment status.

I have gotten serious about looking for a job. My goal is to have something new by August which doesn’t seem too far fetched at this point.
I received an email regarding my interview with Goldman Sachs a couple of days ago. It lead me to believe that they will be making me an offer this week. I’m guessing that I should hear something tomorrow.
Today I interviewed for a position in the IT security department at IHC. It went really well and I think that I nailed it.
I have a bit of a dilemma now though. IF I get both jobs, what one should I take. The Goldman Sachs position pays more and I’ll learn a lot of new things plus it fits in with my current skill set but it is only a guaranteed six month contract. It likely would last longer but there’s no guarantee that I’ll have a job at Christmas.

Lately I’ve been very unsatisfied with my job. There is just a general feeling of negativity at work. This morning I sent an email to my supervisor telling her about some of the stuff that I see going on. I was pretty blunt about things but I know better than to shoot myself in the foot. I haven’t heard back on it yet. I doubt that I will.
There’s also a lot of rumors going around the office. I better not get into any of them here but if they’re true, bad thing could be brewin’.
As I’ve posted here, I’m looking for a new job. I’ve had a few interviews here and there and I’m still waiting to hear back on some good possibilities but I need to get serious. I really need to find a new job before everything I’m hearing is going to happen actually does happen. Hopefully I’ll hear back on one of the good ones soon.

Wow. Two blogs in one day. I guess I’m making up for my slacking over the past few days.
Yesterday I had a second interview with the regional manager of Goldman Sachs. I don’t know how well I did but he did say some things that make me think that I didn’t screw up too badly. He indicated that if I’m offered a position, it’ll probably start around mid-June.
The whole time that I was at the interview, I was really nervous. More nervous than I was during the first interview. I think that it was caused by two things. First, it’s a second interview. Nerves are to be expected. And second, the gentleman’s personality was a lot more intimidating than the first person who interviewed me. I couldn’t figure out why I felt the way that I did during the interview but after reflecting on it, I think that I was scared. The guy was bigger than me and conducted the interview in such a way that I was very intimidated. I haven’t felt like that for a very long time. So long in fact, that I didn’t immediately recognize the feeling. How weird is that?

I got a call today regarding the interview that I had with Goldman Sachs on Monday. Apparently I impressed the interviewer and he wants me to now meet with the regional manager. Sometime within the next two days, I’ll likely be taking part in an interview-style conference call. I may also be meeting with the regional manger face to face but I’m not sure about that yet. The impression that I was left with is that I have a good shot at getting the job. WOO-HOO!
UPDATE: I got a call call today. The regional manager will be available on May 14th and wants to meet with me then.
