This week Holly began orientation for her new job. Yes, that’s right. Holly has re-entered the workforce. This time though, instead of playing with surgical tools, she gets to play with real live people.
Let me start at the beginning. A few weeks back, Holly found a job posting for a LPN in the psych ward at a hospital in Ogden. It was a part time position and she was itching to start using her nursing abilities so she applied, interviewed, and got the job.
The job will be good for a few reasons. First, Holly will have better benefits than I do which is never a bad thing. It’s also an IHC facility which we learned from her stint at LDS Hospital is just plain awesome. (They treated her really well when she worked for them before.) They will also work around her school schedule which will allow her to finish her last semester of nursing school, become a RN, then move to a different department (hopefully labor and delivery.) Probably the best part though is that she’ll get experience in a medical field. Sure, she could go to work at a nursing home but who wants to do that when you can work in a psychiatric ward?

A lot of people have been asking me about my job search. Basically nothing is going on. The position that I interviewed for at IHC seems to have been filled but not by me. I could be wrong though since they haven’t told me that I didn’t get it. I’ve been notified that I’m in the running for other positions with IHC though so I haven’t ruled them out completely.
Goldman Sachs is a different beast. I’m getting very frustrated with them. I keep getting told that they liked me and that an offer is forthcoming but that I’m stuck in red tape. I’ve been stuck in said red tape for over a month now.
I’m getting tired of being tied up in red tape so I’ve started pursuing other options quite aggressively. Last week I applied for at least half a dozen positions with other companies. Hopefully one of them will pan out. I’ll keep you all updated of any changes with my employment status.

I have gotten serious about looking for a job. My goal is to have something new by August which doesn’t seem too far fetched at this point.
I received an email regarding my interview with Goldman Sachs a couple of days ago. It lead me to believe that they will be making me an offer this week. I’m guessing that I should hear something tomorrow.
Today I interviewed for a position in the IT security department at IHC. It went really well and I think that I nailed it.
I have a bit of a dilemma now though. IF I get both jobs, what one should I take. The Goldman Sachs position pays more and I’ll learn a lot of new things plus it fits in with my current skill set but it is only a guaranteed six month contract. It likely would last longer but there’s no guarantee that I’ll have a job at Christmas.

First the good news. Holly got a new job. She still works for IHC but will now be working in labor and delivery as a CNA. As I understand it, she’ll be cleaning up after babies are born as well as helping clean the babies themselves up, weighing them, etc. She is very excited.
I also have a new job prospect. Funny since I’m not really looking. I was called this morning by a company in New York representing Goldman Sachs, a full-service global investment banking and securities firm. They want my computer skills. They seemed interested in me and appear willing to pay me a lot more than I’m currently making but they can only guarantee that the job will last for six months. They did say that they have a guy on the job who’s been there for a year and a half that was only guaranteed six months though. It could work out. We’ll see.
