At Long Last

About a year ago, I was laid off from one of the best jobs that I have ever had. A friend of mine named Chris knew this and told me to give him a copy of my resume so that if he heard of any openings at Hill Air Force Base, he could make sure that it made it into the right hands.  (Chris was a contractor with a company called Rylex and worked at the help desk on the base.)  A few weeks ago, Chris called me and said that Rylex had some openings for IT field technicians and that he had finally given my resume to the VP of human resources. Despite his glowing review of me though, I wasn’t sure that I’d get an interview because Chris told me that he thought that he submitted it too late. Upon hearing this, I started thinking that my chances weren’t very good and resumed my normal duties but then I got a call the next day asking me to come in for an interview.  I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t excited.

Battelle Interview

Today I had an interview with Battelle. They are a company that does IT contract work on Hill Air Force Base. I was originally introduced to them last fall when my neighbor quit his job there and recommended me as his replacement. I interviewed and did well but not well enough because I didn’t get the job.

A few weeks ago, I noticed that Battelle had an opening for the same position that I had previously interviewed for. I didn’t really have anything to lose so I sent in my resume. Surprise! I got an interview!

I wasn’t really sure how to approach this particular interview since I have already gone through this process with this company. I basically just went in and answered everything to the best of my ability. On a few of the answers, the gentlemen who were interviewing me told me that they liked my answers. That’s good, right?

Job Hunt Update II

A couple of days ago, I got a call from New York regarding the position that I interviewed for months ago with Goldman Sachs. The recruiter said that they still want me but don’t have the approval to hire me yet. Apparently the company had permission to interview for the position, but not to hire anybody. Things are moving at the speed of business (as my friend Carl puts it) and I’m tied up in red tape. The recruiter said that she’s seen this before and if I have the patience to wait it out, the job will be mine. It’s a good opportunity for me so I’ve decided to see what happens. I’ve scaled back on looking for jobs for the time being in hopes of somebody signing the right papers and calling me with good news.
