I know that I’m about a week late in posting this, but I’m later than that in posting other stuff so I don’t feel too bad. A year ago I promised that I’d post something about the Billy Joel/Elton John Face to Face concert. After nearly a year of waiting for the concert to actually happen, the night finally arrived. (In case you weren’t aware, it was originally scheduled for November but was rescheduled because Elton John had swine flu and Billy Joel was suffering from exhaustion.)

I am so excited right now that I could almost pee. I’m sure that you’re probably wondering what could cause such excitement in a grown man that he would wet himself. The answer to that question is Billy Joel, row 1.
I have been a Billy Joel fan for as long as I can remember so whenever he comes to town, I get all giddy at the thought of going to see him in concert. Unfortunately, my hopes are always destroyed by a schedule conflict. That’s what happened last year when he came; Holly had a clinical for school that she couldn’t get out of so she promised that the next time he was in Salt Lake we would go. Well, the next time happens to be November 20th.
Friday night, Holly and I went to see Bill Cosby in Wendover. I’ll get to the concert in a minute, but I wanted to discuss this little town in eastern Nevada.
We arrived in town at about 4:00 in the afternoon. We missed our exit thanks to me programming the hotel address into my TomTom wrong so we ended up driving through the “Nevada side” of town. This is the part of town that has half a dozen casinos, a liquor store, a grocery store, and a porn store. It’s basically a place where, if you have a vice, it can be satisfied. We turned around and drove to the Utah side where there are “homes” (also known as run-down trailers and shacks) and a few motels. We had reservations at the lovely Wendover Days Inn.
Tonight is the night that I’ve been waiting for for years. Tonight is the night that Bill Cosby comes to town. Well, actually he’s coming to Wendover, Nevada but we’re going.
Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted to go see Bill Cosby live in concert. When I was younger, I remember him coming to BYU quite frequently but I was never able to go. When I found out that he was coming to Wendover, I made a deal with Holly that we’d go see Air Supply, something Holly has always wanted to do, if we could also get tickets for Cosby. I ordered my tickets as soon as they went on sale. I tried to get Air Supply tickets at the same time but they were already sold out. I guess I should have bought them a few months earlier.
For at least the last 20 years, I’ve dreamed of seeing “Weird Al” Yankovic in concert. Tonight that dream came true.
Holly and I have seen a lot of concerts since we’ve been married. One day I decided to try and list just who we’ve seen and how many times we’ve seen them. I think that I came up a total of around 60 different concerts. (That is including seeing the same artist multiple times.) We’ve seen some pretty entertaining performances: Garth Brooks, Neal McCoy, Joe Diffie, Billy Joel, John Denver at an outdoor venue in the mountains… None of them compared to what I witnessed tonight. It was simply the very best live concert that I have ever been a part of.
Last night Holly and I had the wonderful opportunity of going to see Joe Diffie in concert in South Ogden. This is the fourth time that we’ve seen him and we know that he does a great show. I could hardly wait.
We got there a bit later than we would have liked. It was general admission seating so we had to find a good spot. Holly found a spot on the lawn on the far side of the seating area. We set out our blanket and really enjoyed the concert. I got up to try and take some pictures with my phone and found a place just to the left of the stage that we ended up moving to. From this vantage point, the concert was really good. We could see what was taking place on stage very well.
I had my choir concert last night. I have been practicing with the Syracuse city community choir for the past couple months. We had our first concert which was combined with the Jr. High’s performance. It went pretty well. My neighbors are in the choir too so after the concert we got together for banana splits. It was really fun.
I leave for Women’s conference next Wednesday. I am going with that same neighbor friend and another neighbor. We are going to be in the women’s choir for that too. I am really looking forward to it. I am sure Jeremiah is looking forward to some quality time with the kids.
