As many of you know, I have been working as a beta test coordinator for a company called Centercode, Inc. for the past two years. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Unfortunately, my job was not immune from this English proverb and I was laid off last week. I take comfort in knowing that I wasn’t the only one who lost their job that day but it’s never fun to leave a job that you love going to everyday.
A few days before I received the official word that the company was making cutbacks, my boss pulled me aside and explained the situation to me. Basically, what it came down to is Centercode makes X amount of money per contract and has Y amount of expenses. Because of the situation that we find our economy in, X was no longer enough to cover Y. As pretty much everyone knows, unless you’re a politician, spending more money than you bring in isn’t a good way of doing business. It’s basic math that, unfortunately, led to my termination.

If you have children, then you know that bedtime can often be the most challenging time of the day. At our house, after years of trying to figure out what works, we’ve finally gotten into some sort of routine. It doesn’t always work, but it works enough of the time that we keep doing it.
Emma is wonderful about going to bed. We’ll tuck her in and then she’ll read until she’s ready to sleep. Her body seems to know how much sleep it needs because we never have problems waking her up in the morning. In fact, most of the time she will wake herself up.

Long time readers will remember that last year I screwed up big time when I forgot to meet Emma at her school for dads and donuts. We ended up going to Krispy Kreme and buying donuts. In the end, I made it up to her and all was well. I still felt bad though and vowed not to forget to go the next time dads and donuts came around.
Last week, Emma came home and told me that dads and donuts was coming up again and that I better not forget it this time. Ever since she told me about it, I have very conscientious about not forgetting to go. I figured that it would be best if I went before school started. That way, I could take Emma to school and then go to work. I wouldn’t have to worry about getting off of work on time or getting too busy and forgetting.

I finally have accomplished something with this site that I have wanted to do for nearly a year: I successfully configured Rob Miller’s Now Reading plugin so that we can share our library with you. This plugin allows us to show you what books we are reading, have recently read, and hope to read in the near future. You can also view the book’s details on Amazon.com. I like it because it shows yet another glimpse into the Zohner family and what we do with our time.
I’ve tried more than once to get this plugin configured to work with my site properly but have always failed miserably. I’ve come close a few times to getting it perfect but close was never good enough for me. This time however, my cousin Josh and a person from Spain named Juan, a.k.a. Judas, that I found in the Now Reading Forums me out. Thanks to both of them for all of their patience with me and my sometimes stupid questions.

I just got back from the WalMart by our house where I picked up a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I figured that this is Syracuse so there won’t be a lot of people there. I was wrong. The parking lot looked like it was the day after Thanksgiving and there were people clad in black robes everywhere. Well, actually there was only one guy in a black robe but he was large. And he was by me so I saw him the whole time I was there.
When I walked into the store, I noticed that the line stretched all the way to the back. No big deal until I discovered that it was only the last half of the line. The first half was at a 90 degree angle and stretched the entire width of the store. I walked to the back and thought that I was insane. I could always come back tomorrow right? Yeah. So I left. I got to the doors and the line started moving. Tomorrow was here. The book was being distributed to the masses. I went back to the end of the line and waited.
