What? No, I’m not changing my chosen profession. I’m getting ready to finish our basement. I spent about four hours on Saturday drawing up plans for the basement with a friend who is going to make sure that I don’t chop off any appendages or blow up the house during construction.

I’ll be applying for a building permit this week and will start installing HVAC vents on Thursday night. Actually, another friend will be doing that work but I’ll be there to make sure he doesn’t fall off his ladder or whatever else I can pretend to do while trying to make myself feel useful.

Actual construction will probably begin within the next two weeks depending on how soon I get approved for the building permit. The plan is to make a family room, complete with gas fireplace and built-in home theater, a bedroom, and a 3/4 bathroom. Once everything is done, we’ll be moving Emma into the bedroom. Chelsea will then be relocated into the family room.

If I happen to cut off my hands or blow up the house, my blogging activity will likely cease. Hopefully you hear from me again once I start playing with power tools.
