I’ve pretty much been glued to the television at night watching the Olympics. It’s funny how every four years, I all of a sudden care about sports that I normally have no interest in like women’s gymnastics. Maybe it’s due to the fact that I love my country and love to see its athletes dominate the rest of the world.
I’m currently working on another post that I hope to have up soon. In the meantime, here is Dwight from The Office with some suggestions for future Olympic events.
Thanks to my friend Carl, this morning I was able to attend an advanced screening of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. For those who know me, you know that I’m a big Star Wars geek so being able to see the movie a whole week before it’s released was awesome. (I think that it should help my geek cred. Maybe +5?)
I’m too lazy to write a plot synopsis so here is one from allmovie.com.
Have you ever wondered how they came up with the music for The Sound of Music which is apparently one of the greatest war movies of all time? Or maybe you’ve pondered why Mario is always breaking bricks with his head in search of mushrooms? Well, the answers are all here thanks to this lovely clip from Jeff Dye. Watch now.
Ever since I saw the ending of Batman Begins where we are shown a playing card with a joker on it, I have been highly anticipating this sequel in the Batman franchise. I am a huge fan of the Batman comics and have always thought that the Joker was one of the best villains. Now we have a movie that pits the madness of the Joker against the madness of the Batman. What’s not to get excited about? (Yes, I know that Tim Burton did the Batman vs. Joker thing back in 1989. I was excited for it back then too.)
The Dark Knight is probably the best movie based on a comic book that I have ever seen. There was so much that was good about it that what was bad is inconsequential. Here are a few of my thoughts on the movie. Warning! Minor spoilers ahead!
That’s not exactly true. While I like watching movies, I hate going to the theater to watch them. Not all theaters are bad but there is one in Layton that makes me shudder at the thought of going to the movies.
There is a new theater in Syracuse that opened over the weekend so on Friday night Holly and I went to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It was a fun movie but not as good as the other three. Well, it may be a bit better than Temple of Doom but that’s up for debate. Holly thought that it was the best movie in the franchise. I won’t go so far as to say that but I definitely recommend going to see it.
Since Holly finished up her first year of nursing school on Wednesday, she thought that it would be fun to go on a little vacation during her week and a half break. You see, she starts her RN year next week and wanted to do more than just sit at home doing nothing during her time off. I agreed with her and so the planning began.
Since neither of us had ever been to Zions National Park or Bryce Canyon National Park, we decided that we should take a road trip through Utah and enjoy some of the beautiful scenery that this state has to offer. We booked our hotels and I told my boss I was leaving for a few days, then we loaded up the van and started driving.
Well, CBS has gone and done it again. They canceled Jericho. The show that made history by being brought back from cancellation, only to be given a crappy time slot and an even crappier lead-in just couldn’t produce the numbers that CBS found acceptable to justify a third season.
I have to admit that I’m not really surprised. The writing was on the wall even before the first episode of the second season aired. CBS was basically doing this to get fans to stop sending tons and tons of nuts to their mailroom. They knew that we were angry about the show ending on a cliffhanger so they decided to placate us with seven more episodes to tie everything up all nice and pretty like. I have to say though that those seven episodes were amazing. They were quite literally some of the best television that I have ever seen. (That’s saying a lot.)
I’ve been having a serious case of writer’s block lately. There’s a lot that I want to post but can’t quite get it right when I type it out. Until my brain gets itself right with my wordsmith skills, here is a funny commercial for M&M’s.
Just a quick reminder that Jericho makes its triumphant return the the airwaves tonight on CBS at 9:00 Mountain time. There are seven episodes scheduled so if you’re tired of watching shows that start with “Who wants to be a…” or any of those other “reality” shows thanks to the writers strike, be sure to tune in. Watch it even if you love reality shows because it’s one of the best shows EVER. I’ve watched a lot of TV in my life so I should know.
Recently I began noticing commercials that I don’t remember ever seeing in Utah. They are trying to sway my vote in the upcoming Democratic presidential primary election next week. Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are telling me that if I vote for them, they are going to change things in Washington. Republicans like John McCain are also saying that they’ll bring change.
Change can be good. It can also be bad though. If I go from being a free man to wearing a prison jumpsuit, that’s a change. It’s not a good change though. I never thought I’d say this, but I agree with both Hillary and Obama; things in Washington need to change. However, the changes that they are proposing, in my opinion, aren’t necessarily good. People are assuming that if major changes happen in this election cycle, those changes are going to be for the best. I strongly disagree.
