Last night Chelsea came over for a few hours. She took the kids to a Halloween party and then we hung out and watched Heroes while she was fooling around on her laptop.
Shortly before she went home, her computer was sitting closed on the floor. She stood up to go to the bathroom and her cell phone flew off of her lap, bouncing off the top of the laptop. I made a comment about how it’s not a good idea to go throwing things at a laptop because screen breakage is inevitable but she just laughed me off.
Before she left, I told her that I needed to put something on her computer. She assumed that it was something cool like a game and handed over her laptop. Little did she know that I had no intentions of putting a game on her system. While she was gone, I replaced her very cool Batman wallpaper with this image:

I know that it’s been a while since I posted anything. I actually have good reasons for not doing so. Last week was complete chaos in the Zohner home. Let me try and catch everyone up.
Last Friday, my sister Chelsea got married. Because of this, my mom came into town from Denver. The last time she was here, she made a comment about how the basement looked just as it had months earlier when she last saw it. I wasn’t about to let that happen again so I spent 35 hours over the weekend painting and installing the home theater speakers. I started on Friday afternoon and finally finished Sunday evening. Lucky for me, Chelsea and Nick came over and helped a bit which actually ended up helping a lot because without them, I wouldn’t have been ready on Monday when we had the flooring installed. Now I just have a few things left and then the basement will be complete. YAY!

This morning, Alex woke up screaming. Holly went in to see what the problem was and found him standing in the middle of the room with his eyes closed. Holly asked him what was wrong and he told her that he couldn’t open his eyes. She asked if they were glued shut and he said that they were. He also said that Emma did it. (Emma can be so mean.
) She took him into the bathroom and cleaned the excessive amounts of eye boogers out so that he could once again see.
It was at this point that Holly was convinced that she, Alex, Emma, Chelsea, and maybe Hannah all have pink eye. She took the kids to the doctor where her thoughts were confirmed. Chelsea got lucky and just has allergies. For now.

UNOFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!
For those who have not heard yet, my sister, Chelsea, is engaged. Since it’s not my wedding, I’ve been spared from having to do too many things. One thing that I did volunteer for though is making a DVD slideshow of Chelsea and her love interest, Nick. I get to choose what pictures and music are used. Can you say “bathtub pictures”? It’s going to be fun.
On Sunday, I started going through stacks of old pictures deciding which ones I was going to use. As I was looking through Chelsea’s scrapbook, I found pictures of my graduation, when I went on my mission, our mom at an Amway convention, and my first Christmas with Holly. It was like taking a trip down memory lane.

I had a post all planned for last Friday but to be honest, I was way too tired to get on the computer and write anything. Unlike last year, this year’s Black Friday was a success… But just barely.
Everybody but Chelsea woke up around 3:00 in the morning and dressed for the cold. Chelsea never went to bed so she was awake and showered when we all got up. While I was getting coats, hats, and mittens on the kids, Holly made the traditional breakfast of Black Friday: leftover turkey sandwiches. Once those were done, we were off.
Holly dropped Chelsea and I off at Old Navy to stand in line for an hour while she went to JCPenney. It was cold. Somebody checked the weather from their cell phone and said that it was 9 degrees. Yeah. We’re stupid. But we got what we wanted.

With Halloween just a few days away, we decided that today would be a good time to carve some pumpkins. Growing up, I never looked forward to carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns. There was something about a crooked “smile” and some triangles representing a nose and eyes that I just despised. I always wanted to do something cool but, due to a lack of artistic ability, my pumpkins always looked like some Charlie Brown reject. After I married Holly, we discovered pumpkin patterns. They changed everything.
In years past, I have mostly done Star Wars themed pumpkins. One year though, my Yoda and Boba Fett were stolen (not smashed) within hours of placing them on our doorstep so I’ve tried to do less cool carvings ever since. I think that that goal was thrown out the window today.

I love autumn. The nights are getting cooler and the leaves are changing colors. Plus, I don’t have to mow my lawn every week in sweltering heat or shovel snow so it’s a good time of year for me.
Down the road from our house lies Black Island Farms. This is a huge, 400+ acre farm that turns into Utah’s largest corn maze once October rolls around. In addition to the maze(s), they also have tractor rides through the farm, stopping at the pumpkin patch where everybody gets to pick the largest pumpkin they can find. Once the sun goes down, the Field of Screams begins. There’s also numerous activities for smaller kids including slides and a bounce house.

Yesterday, we had a family reunion of sorts with my dad’s side of the family at my aunt Annette’s home. This is something that seems to be becoming a tradition of sorts. We’ve done it every year for the past… um… two years. So twice. It’s a lot of fun though. I get to see members of my dad’s family that I don’t see nearly often enough. We cook meat on the grill and eat salads and other side dishes to our hearts content. (I love to eat food that has been cooked over an open flame. It just tastes better for some reason.) Plus, my step-mother, Emmy, makes yummy brownies that I can’t get enough of. Unfortunately, there’s only enough for one per person so I have to “get enough”.

Today is my little sister’s 18th birthday. For her first act as an adult, she got a library card. She’s so excited to have it!
Since she has to work tonight, we decided to do cake and ice cream with presents yesterday. Our ice cream was all gone so we went to Baskin Robbins to get ice cream cones. The kids loved it. Holly and I were disappointed in the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup ice cream but the Snickers is awesome.
While I was running an errand to Salt Lake, Holly made a cake that we consumed later in the evening. Holly and Emma decided to throw some trick candles on it for fun which proved to be the highlight of the “party”. Chelsea blew them all out then flames reappeared. No matter how much blowing out of the candles took place, they kept relighting. There was so much smoke in the kitchen that I was afraid that a smoke detector was going to go off. Holly laughed herself silly at it all and I had fun watching all of the events unfold.

Going to the zoo is one of my very favorite things to do that I don’t get do to nearly often enough. When I was in South Africa, I’d go to the Pretoria Zoo every Saturday. Today we all went to Hogle Zoo with my mom and sister, Chelsea.
I knew that it was going to be a good day when we got a parking spot right by the entrance. Every other time I’ve gone to Hogle Zoo, I’ve had to park half a mile away then hike in the sweltering heat to the actual entrance. By the time tickets are paid for, everyone is tired an hungry and nearing dehydration. Getting right by the gate was awesome!
When we walked in, one of our first stops was the primate house. The kids, especially Hannah, loved seeing all of the monkeys. She kept talking to them through the glass. “Hi nuhmey.”
