I’m normally not a big fan of shows like American Idol or America’s Got Talent but I do like to see disasters as they occur. Who can forget such memorable performances like William Hung’s version of She Bangs or one of the worst covers of a Stevie Wonder song ever? These types of things are pure entertainment for me. I know that by admitting this, I run the risk of appearing to be a huge jerk but I know I’m not the only one because TV producers keep giving us these train wrecks.
Yesterday I received a link from my boss telling me to check it out but to not be judgmental. It was a video clip of a 47-year-old British cat lady that is in severe need of a lip waxing from Britain’s Got Talent. In my mind, the producers of this show set her up to be a complete crazy, a la 75% of the people on the first six episodes of American Idol every season that think they have talent but really don’t. Given my desire to see some good public humiliation, I watched it expecting to see her get run off of the stage within a few minutes. Boy was I wrong.
I have to admit that I was floored by such an amazing performance. I had jumped to a conclusion that I’m sure the producers knew I would jump to and I was wrong. This lady may live with a cat and come off as a bit crazy but she has an amazing voice. I hope that she does well in the competition because she certainly deserves to win.
My boss told me not to judge and, despite my best efforts, I judged. Sometimes it’s so hard not to be judgmental but when we are, we run the risk of missing something really cool. I learned a bit of a lesson. I hope you have too Judgie McJudger.

Okay, Okay…thanks for making me cry! (I blame it on the pregnancy hormones). I absolutely LOVED the stunned looks on the judges faces – and it’s not very often you see Simon smile so big!
Susan Boyle is an exceptionally talented lady who’s been subjected to considerable ridicule in the media. IMHO she deserves every bit of success that she is experiencing.
