I am so excited right now that I could almost pee. I’m sure that you’re probably wondering what could cause such excitement in a grown man that he would wet himself. The answer to that question is Billy Joel, row 1.
I have been a Billy Joel fan for as long as I can remember so whenever he comes to town, I get all giddy at the thought of going to see him in concert. Unfortunately, my hopes are always destroyed by a schedule conflict. That’s what happened last year when he came; Holly had a clinical for school that she couldn’t get out of so she promised that the next time he was in Salt Lake we would go. Well, the next time happens to be November 20th.
Somehow whenever Billy Joel comes to town, the news always seems to escape me until after tickets have gone on sale. That would have been the case this time too had Holly not mentioned on Saturday that he was coming with Elton John and that tickets would be going on sale today. As soon as I learned this little bit of information, I found out where tickets would be on sale and what time they would be made available. Once I knew this, I set a reminder on my phone so that I would remember when I to drop what I was doing and buy my tickets.
In 1993, Billy Joel came to Salt Lake on his River of Dreams tour. I had seats on row 2 and it is still one of the highlights of my life. I was hoping to improve upon my seating this time around and did; I got row 1 seats. I think that I paid $35 per seat in 1993, this time around it was considerably more expensive but I really don’t care because I’m going to see one of my favorite musicians of all time. I’m not fond of the eight month wait that I have ahead of me but I got my tickets and that’s really all that matters.
I also learned today that Ticketmaster is evil. They hit me with $4 “facility charge” and a $19.55 “convenience charge” for each ticket that I bought. $50 in bogus charges is not a way to endear yourself to customers. (I’m guessing the company is made up of former car dealers.) Given the fact that it took me nearly 20 minutes to buy my tickets on their website, there was nothing “convenient” about using Ticketmaster. How they are able to keep doing this to customers is beyond me but, suffice it to say, they are pure evil.
In spite of Ticketmaster’s attempts to thwart my joy, I got my tickets and I can’t hardly contain myself. I’ll be sure to give a review of the concert in November so be sure to come back. Until then, enjoy some Piano Man.
