I’m Too Old

When I was a kid, I would spend countless hours at the roller skating rink with my friends.  I don’t think that it was so much that I enjoyed roller skating as it was something to do.  Don’t get me wrong, I had fun, I just don’t think that the fun was due to the fact that I was wearing ugly shoes with wheels.

A few weeks ago, Holly and the kids thought that it would be a good idea to go roller skating.  Skating rinks have evolved since my youth into an entertainment utopia.  In addition to roller skating, the one by us has a large number of arcade games, a place to get food, including pizza, a rock climbing wall, and a wing of bounce houses.

Because we went to roller skate, we all got skates and headed out onto the floor.  I immediately realized that I’m too old for this kind of behavior.  For those who don’t know, I have bad feet.  Roller skates aren’t exactly the best footwear for somebody with bad feet.  Within minutes my feet were screaming at me.  Alex was having fun holding my hand and trying not to fall so I kept skating.

After a few minutes of trying to keep Alex upright while dodging hundreds of speeding ten-year-old kids, I needed a break.  Alex, Emma, and Hannah were also tired of skating and wanted to go play in the bounce wing of the building.  Holly used this opportunity to take me back out so we could skate by ourselves.  After tiring of dodging more kids, we decided it would be a good idea to order a pizza.

While the kids were bouncing, I pulled out my phone and recorded some footage of them playing.  (I really need a good digital camcorder.)  I’ve posted it here for your viewing pleasure.  The sound keeps cutting out and the video quality is mediocre but it’s still footage of the kids playing.  I think that there’s a saying about the thought being what counts but if mediocrity is the result, does it apply?

Somehow Hannah always seems to know when there is a camera on her.  I can’t figure out where she gets that from.
