11 Years
On Saturday, Holly and I celebrated our eleventh year of marriage by realizing that we’re old.
I wanted to do something nice with her so I made reservations at Ye Lion’s Den, a restaurant in Ogden specializing in deliciousness. When we usually go out to eat, I try and get something that won’t break the bank; anniversaries are different though. I like good food and if I go to a place with really good food, I want to enjoy it. Needless to say, I enjoyed it.
Holly decided that she would be a bit adventurous and order her rib eye steak medium. (Normally, she likes her meat very well done.) I think that she mistakenly asked for medium rare though because that cow just needed a few band-aids to get it back out grazing in the fields. She ended up sending it back and a few minutes later, she received a piece of meat that was no longer mooing and was absolutely amazing. Fortunately for me, she couldn’t eat it all so I got the leftovers. The meat wasn’t as good the next day but it was still very tasty.
I figured that I’d try something that I don’t usually get when we go out to eat so I ordered a rack of lamb. I’ve had lamb before but when I’ve eaten it in the U.S., I’ve always been disappointed. I guess I was spoiled in South Africa with their higher standards regarding the eating of baby sheep. This time was different though. Apparently the restaurant imports their lamb from New Zealand, the land of sheep and hobbits. It was very delicious, especially with the mint sauce that it came with. Holly asked me how I felt knowing that I was eating a baby sheep. I thought about it for a minute and told her that I was pleased. It was really good.
Holly is always talking about how she wants to go play miniature golf. Since we were on a date, I figured that it would be a good opportunity to take her so we went to Fat Cats in Ogden. The place is basically a pool hall-arcade-bowling alley-mini-golf-restaurant-bar all rolled into one. Apparently, it is also the place to be on a Saturday night in Ogden since there was about 2.3 million people there. It was very loud and very crowded, neither of which are things that I enjoy. We played nine holes and left. We both decided that we’re too old to go to places like this since we both felt that there were too many people and too much noise. I guess that we are no longer “young and hip”. Not that I ever was “hip”.
If you’re looking for a good place to eat, check out Ye Lion’s Den. It’s a bit pricey but it’s well worth it. As for mini-golf, unless you like noise and people, avoid Fat Cats. It’s fun but not designed for us old people.
