Taking Back The Garage
Now that the basement is almost completely finished, I decided that the weekend would be spent trying to clean the garage enough to allow one of our vehicles to be parked inside. I have always taken great pride in the fact that, unlike some of our neighbors, we could actually park both vehicles in the garage and still have room to walk around them. When we decided to start working on the basement though, all that changed. I still took pride in being able to park in the garage, I just couldn’t. It’s amazing how much room sheetrock, lumber, bathroom stuff, etc. takes up.
Even after the walls were framed and the sheetrock was all in place, the garage was still a huge mess. Because of the lack of maneuverability that we had to endure when it was all there, the kids became used to just leaving their bikes, scooters, and big wheels wherever they could. Add to that the fact that I did the same with the lawnmower, scrap lumber, and my tools, and you can imagine the mess that we were dealing with. Well, after about five hours of work, I was able to park the Saturn in the garage. We haven’t been able to park inside for months! It felt really good to see the car where it belongs.
With half of the garage now cleaned out, we just need to get a few more boxes and a bookshelf put where they belong and then the van will also fit. Despite being clean, the garage still seems very cluttered to me. I think that it’s because we have so many bikes, etc. I think that once next summer rolls around, I may finally be able to build the shed that I so desperately want. Once I do, that should free up a lot of space in the garage because I’ll be able to move the lawnmower, tiller, and garden stuff out of the garage.
I love clean.
