Over the past week, a lot of things have been done to our house. First, I finally finished the drywall in the basement and have started working on installing baseboards. I also managed to get the doors hung but one of them is a bit tweaked so I’ll need to spend some time working on getting it corrected.
I’m hoping to have everything finished by the time that Chelsea gets married a the end of the month. That gives me three weeks to finish baseboards, prime and paint the walls, and get flooring installed. I’ll also need to get doorknobs and window coverings installed but that’s about it. It’s so nice to finally be able to see a light at the end of the tunnel that doesn’t resemble an oncoming train.
Another home improvement that we’ve made this past week is that we decided to install a fence in our backyard. This is something that we’ve wanted to do since before we moved in more than two years ago. Between kids constantly trashing our yard, kids hanging out below our bedroom window, kids forbidding our kids from coming into the yard because it’s their “secret place”, and kids leaving shoes, socks, etc. all around the trampoline, we decided that it was time to start enforcing our property lines.
One of the nice things about the fence is we can now let Oscar run free. To make it a bit easier on everyone, I installed a dog door that he can use to come and go as he pleases. After the fence was installed, the neighborhood kids still felt that they could come and go any time that they wanted so I put locks on the gates. This serves two purposes: it allows me to keep kids out and it ensures that the gates will stay closed so that Oscar stays in. If we’re going to allow him to go out whenever he wants, those gates have obviously got to be closed at all times.
After Emma saw all of the changes that have happened over the past few days, she said that “It’s like we have a new house.” I think she’s excited because it’s now only a matter of weeks until she gets her own bedroom again. She also loves the dog door. If she thinks that these are some big changes, just wait until she sees what I have planned for upstairs.
