A lot has happened in the past week that I’ve wanted to blog about but work has kept me too busy. I’ve been working long hours and then, when I get home, there’s so much to do that I don’t usually get a break until around 8:00.
This weekend, we decided to take a break from our busy lives and take the family camping with some of our friends. Like last year, we headed up Logan Canyon with hopes of catching some big fish and, like last year, we came back empty handed. I’m getting a bit ahead of myself though. Let me start at the beginning.
Friday was supposed to be a nice day. It had been raining for three days but was supposed to clear out in time for the weekend. I wasn’t confident that it would be clear but I didn’t think that the weather would be horrible. By the time we left at almost 5:00 on Friday, the weather was still gloomy with the occasional rain shower. It turns out that the weather never really cleared up and we had occasional showers with a very, very frigid wind throughout the weekend.
As we were heading up to Logan, we had to stop at the grocery store to pick up a few extra things. While in the parking lot, a Mexican guy came up to the van selling fresh tamales. YUM! I love fresh tamales! We knew that it would still be a few hours before dinner so we bought some and started munching on them as we drove.
When we arrived, I started setting up camp while Holly started working on dinner with our friend, Dana. Dinner consisted of bar-b-que chicken, potatoes, rolls, and a chocolate cake, all of which was cooked in Dutch ovens. It was amazing! Ater dinner, we sat around the fire roasting marshmallows.
The next morning, the tamales that I ate the night before came back with a vengeance. I ended up sleeping for most of the morning but did get up in time to eat some Dutch oven breakfast. It’s a good thing too because it was delicious.
Sitting around the fire roasting marshmallows pretty much sums up the weekend. It was too cold to do anything that was more than three or four feet from the fire. We did manage to pull ourselves away to do some fishing but, since it was raining and cold, it wasn’t much fun.
We decided that since we couldn’t do much on this trip that we need to go camping again in August. Hopefully the weather will be a little bit more cooperative then.
