Construction Resumes

After a few weeks off due to an extremely busy schedule, I was finally able to resume construction on the basement this weekend. Since I have two tons of drywall sitting in my garage, and hanging it is the next step, that’s what I did.

I know nothing about hanging drywall other than it’s heavy and takes a lot of screws. I bought a 25lb. box of drywall screws so I’m good there but because of the “it’s heavy” thing, I opted to rent a drywall lift to assist with the ceiling. I also enlisted the help of some friends, including Chelsea’s love interest, Nick. After 12 hours, we were able to get the entire ceiling and part of the walls in the family room finished.

There are a few things I learned while doing this on Saturday. First, friends really will work for pizza. If KFC gets thrown in too, they’ll even stay late. Second, if you lift drywall panels for 12 hours, even with a lift, you’re going to be very, very sore the next morning. Third, if you mess up on hanging the drywall, it creates a lot more work and an extra trip to Home Depot.

The basement is coming along nicely. It’s actually starting to look like rooms and not just wood and insulation. I think that I still have 18-20 hours of work left before I can start mudding and taping. Hopefully, I will be able to work a bit on it this week after work but with school and an upcoming road trip, it may be a few weeks before I get it done.

Thanks to those who came over and helped. It is very appreciated.
