For a while now, our mattress has desperately needed to be replaced. It didn’t only sag, it leaned to the side. Every morning when Holly and I woke up, we would barely be able to move because of back and/or neck pain. This had gone on for far too long so on Valentine’s Day, we bought a new bed.
Well, the bed was finally delivered on Monday. I like it a lot but it’s taking time getting used to sleeping on a mattress that doesn’t poke springs into my back and make me feel like a paraplegic in the mornings. Holly, on the other hand, seems to have a general disdain for the mattress. I think that she too just needs to get used to sleeping on a firm bed again.
Our cocker spaniel, Oscar, also has issues with the bed. This one is much higher than our old bed. It almost comes up to my waist and my feet dangle off of the sides. I like the fact that it’s so high but Oscar despises it because he is unable to jump up and sleep on the bed. Since he has lost his favorite place to sleep, he spends the night pacing around the bed whining. I guess he figures that somebody will eventually pick him up and put him on the bed. Holly doesn’t like sharing the bed with the dog so she won’t do it and I know that if Oscar gets up, Holly will accidentally kick him off in her sleep so I won’t do it either.
Last night, Oscar had had enough of being denied a comfy spot on the new bed so he decided to jump up. He missed. He slammed right into my side of the bed, creating a lot of noise, and scaring me awake in the process. I still didn’t pick him up so he finally decided to sleep on the floor.
While I feel bad for Oscar, I look at this situation this way: if he ever decides to go insane and try to eat me in my sleep, I’ll be safe. I hope that he figures out a new place to sleep before it comes to that though.
