Got Change?

Recently I began noticing commercials that I don’t remember ever seeing in Utah. They are trying to sway my vote in the upcoming Democratic presidential primary election next week. Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are telling me that if I vote for them, they are going to change things in Washington. Republicans like John McCain are also saying that they’ll bring change.

Change can be good. It can also be bad though.  If I go from being a free man to wearing a prison jumpsuit, that’s a change.  It’s not a good change though.  I never thought I’d say this, but I agree with both Hillary and Obama; things in Washington need to change. However, the changes that they are proposing, in my opinion, aren’t necessarily good. People are assuming that if major changes happen in this election cycle, those changes are going to be for the best. I strongly disagree.

Remember the Hindenburg? If not, here’s a bit of history for you. The Hindenburg was a German zeppelin. It was the largest aircraft ever built and was going to revolutionize the way that people travel. Then it exploded while landing in New Jersey in May of 1937, killing 35 of the 97 people on board. Going from the bi-plane to the zeppelin was supposed to be a glorious change. Instead, it turned into a horrible disaster. (You can check out footage of it here.)

I think that if Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John McCain, or any candidates like them get elected, we will see change just like they promise. I think though that the change though will eventually resemble the Hindenburg. Sure, it will look good for a while. We may even benefit from it for a time but in the end we’ll see a fiery explosion that causes massive casualties. Oh the humanity!

I agree that it’s time for a change in this country. Our politicians have failed us and the people are ready to revolt.  Personally, I’ve had enough of the Bush/Clinton years. I think that we need a new perspective in Washington. People just need to remember that change for the sake of change isn’t always a good thing. The change needs to be the right change at the right time.

Which candidate do I support?  I’m not sure.  I’ll most likely vote Republican but I don’t like McCain and Huckabee has never met a tax increase he didn’t like.  I guess I’ll just have to see who is the least likely to cause our country to explode in a giant fireball. Too bad Duncan Hunter just dropped out of the race…

I don’t disagree. Change just for the sake of change is not always a good thing. Point taken.

I guess whether it is the “right change and the right time” is going to be largely a matter of personal opinion and the type of change you are looking for. That might be harder to agree on.
