Black Friday

I had a post all planned for last Friday but to be honest, I was way too tired to get on the computer and write anything. Unlike last year, this year’s Black Friday was a success… But just barely.

Everybody but Chelsea woke up around 3:00 in the morning and dressed for the cold. Chelsea never went to bed so she was awake and showered when we all got up. While I was getting coats, hats, and mittens on the kids, Holly made the traditional breakfast of Black Friday: leftover turkey sandwiches. Once those were done, we were off.

Holly dropped Chelsea and I off at Old Navy to stand in line for an hour while she went to JCPenney. It was cold. Somebody checked the weather from their cell phone and said that it was 9 degrees. Yeah. We’re stupid. But we got what we wanted.

Just before Old Navy opened, Holly brought Hannah and Alex to wait in line with us and she took Emma to Kohl’s. I heard that Kohl’s was pretty crazy; lot’s of pushing and stealing stuff from other people. I’m glad that I wasn’t there. In comparison, Old Navy was pretty mild. We were in and out but since Holly had the car and was stuck in line at a store a few miles away, we were effectively trapped.

Chelsea and I wanted to go to Target but they didn’t open for another hour so we waited in the cold… again. Once we finally got into the store, we had a rough go. Chelsea couldn’t find what she wanted to buy for the kids until about an hour later while we were waiting in line, and I was barely able to get copies of the DVDs that I had gone for. Luckily, I got the last copies of The Goonies and Christmas Vacation. That made me happy but Chelsea was very tired and very cranky. (She didn’t sleep the night before.)

After we had finished our shopping and met back up with Holly, it was time to go home. I dropped everyone off at the house then headed over to WalMart in hopes of getting one or two more gifts at great prices. It was a total waste. I overheard some employees talking about how horrible the sales were this year. I couldn’t agree more. Usually WalMart is packed on the day after Thanksgiving but this year it was almost empty. I guess that everyone went to Target and Kohl’s.

Once all of the shopping was done, we set up the Christmas tree. I was pretty tired and had a bad headache so I don’t know how much help I was but the job got done. It looks really nice.

Now that Black Friday is over, my shopping is pretty much done. There are still a few people that I need to buy for but thankfully, I don’t think I’ll be spending much time in the stores during the next month. I like the feeling of being done because now I can just relax and enjoy the holidays. Plus, if I do decide to buy anything else, I can most likely get it online. Yay for computers!
