The Best Day Ever
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! For the Zohner family, it was very busy. For me, the busyness actually started a few days ago as I started planning what I would be cooking for everyone. My mom and her husband, Terry, came to visit from Denver and I didn’t want to let them down by preparing a horrible meal.
I’ve heard that the average person eats around 10,000 calories on Thanksgiving day. Considering the fact that I was adding heavy whipping cream to stuffing, I can believe it. We had so much food. I think that it was quite possibly the largest meal that I have every prepared. In the end, I planned a great meal that turned out very nice. Thankfully Holly and Chelsea were there to help me when multiple things needed to be done at the same time. I couldn’t have pulled it off without them. The best part about it though is all of the leftovers that are in the fridges. Yes, that’s plural. Our fridge in the kitchen is packed full as is the “spare” fridge that we keep in our garage. I love Thanksgiving leftovers.
After our meal was finished and the dishes were done, Holly and I looked through the ads in the newspaper in an effort to plan out our Black Friday shopping. Yes, we go out and fight the insane crowds. In fact, we’ll be leaving the house at about 3:00 am in hopes of scoring free loot and deep discounts. Yeah, I know that we’re crazy but we have fun.
Once everyone had recovered from their turkey induced comas, we loaded the kids in the van and went to the movies. We had hopes of seeing Enchanted but it was sold out so we watched Bee Movie instead. I’m not sure that I liked it too much. It was OK and had some funny moments but I wasn’t really able to get into it the way that the kids did. I think that Holly feels the same way. It was a good movie but I’ve seen better.
As I lay here in bed, looking back over the events of the day, something that Emma said this morning is going through my mind. She told me that even if we weren’t having a big feast, it would still be the best day ever because the most important thing about Thanksgiving is spending it with family. That’s exactly what we did and it was a great day. To quote Emma as we were leaving the movies, “Dad, this is the best day ever.”
