The Great Pumpkin Carving Adventure Of 2007

With Halloween just a few days away, we decided that today would be a good time to carve some pumpkins. Growing up, I never looked forward to carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns. There was something about a crooked “smile” and some triangles representing a nose and eyes that I just despised. I always wanted to do something cool but, due to a lack of artistic ability, my pumpkins always looked like some Charlie Brown reject. After I married Holly, we discovered pumpkin patterns. They changed everything.

In years past, I have mostly done Star Wars themed pumpkins. One year though, my Yoda and Boba Fett were stolen (not smashed) within hours of placing them on our doorstep so I’ve tried to do less cool carvings ever since. I think that that goal was thrown out the window today.

Today I helped Emma make a carving of Maleficent in dragon form from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. Let me just say that it was a pain to carve. There were so many intricate cuts that had to be made that it took hours to finish. Once it was done though, it looked pretty cool. I also carved Lightning McQueen from Pixar’s Cars. While it wasn’t as cool as Mater would have been, it still looked pretty sweet. Holly carved Tigger and Chelsea did Batman. I can’t wait until Wednesday night when they’re lit up on our front steps.

And if the person that stole two of the pumpkins from in front of our house happens to be reading this, I’ll find out who you are…
