I originally wasn’t going to post this, but I was speaking with some of my friends and they actually requested that I put it up on my blog. I told Holly and she agreed that I should post it too. So, by popular demand, here are some thoughts about what is going on in Iraq.
On Sunday, Emma and I went to introduce ourselves to some new people in our neighborhood. It turns out that the husband is in the Air Force. He’s a F-16 mechanic who recently returned home from Iraq. I asked him how things are going over there; if they were as bad as the media portrays or if they’re as good as others would have you believe. He told me that the media doesn’t report any of the good things going on over there, of which there are a lot. He told us a few stories about how the Army delivered stuffed animals to children and how the entire culture over there is changing for the better. He gave a lot of really specific examples which were nice to hear.
He also said that the United States is stabilizing the entire region with our presence. I won’t go into details because I’m not sure how much is public knowledge (I’m guessing not a lot) and how much he could get in trouble for saying. Needless to say, I was very happy with some of the information that he passed along. He also stated that people don’t understand that if we pull out of Iraq, we’ll have terrorists coming over here. We’re pretty much cutting them off before they can get started. Kind of like a weed. You kill it when it is only a single dandelion as opposed to a field of dandelions that have overtaken your lawn. (Take note, Europe.)
Nobody likes to go to war. Well, the Spartans did but they were a crazy lot. In this day and age though, war is an unfortunate necessity. It’s either go take terrorists down on their turf or let them come over here with their suicide bomber belts and let them kill us.
People need to realize that there is an entire group of people who want nothing more than to see everybody that is different from them dead in the streets. If we don’t take the fight to them, then we will surely lose. It is important that we not lose our resolve in this matter. It is well documented that these groups, the majority of which are radical Islamics, want to rule the Earth the way that they think it should be ruled. We need to keep fighting them on our terms, not theirs. Iraq is the battleground. Let’s keep it there so that it doesn’t move here.
Thank you to all of our brave troops who put their lives on the line every day. Your sacrifices are noticed and appreciated.
And to our new neighbors, welcome to the neighborhood!
