Job Hunt Update II

A couple of days ago, I got a call from New York regarding the position that I interviewed for months ago with Goldman Sachs. The recruiter said that they still want me but don’t have the approval to hire me yet. Apparently the company had permission to interview for the position, but not to hire anybody. Things are moving at the speed of business (as my friend Carl puts it) and I’m tied up in red tape. The recruiter said that she’s seen this before and if I have the patience to wait it out, the job will be mine. It’s a good opportunity for me so I’ve decided to see what happens. I’ve scaled back on looking for jobs for the time being in hopes of somebody signing the right papers and calling me with good news.

But wait! That’s not all. I heard back regarding two of the positions that I applied for with IHC. It was via email so it’s not good but that’s ok. Even though I am no longer in the running for these two particular jobs, I haven’t heard that I’m no longer being considered for the other four or five that I’ve applied for with them, including the one that they interviewed me for.

Also, I have an interview next Monday with a company called Battelle. They have an IT support position open on Hill Air Force Base. I would love to get this job. I originally interviewed for the job back in December but wasn’t chosen. I was really surprised because I was recommended by a neighbor who actually had just left the job that I was applying for. On my way out of the door, one of the gentlemen that I met with told me that I did really well. I’ve never had an interviewer tell me that before so I was pretty confident and surprised when I was told the job went to somebody else. Now that the position is open again, I’m really hoping that they hire me.

This creates a dilemma for me though. I’ve already interviewed for this job. Granted, it was seven months ago but the manager remembers me. How do I interview again? Do I do the same things that I did before even though I didn’t get the job? They obviously liked me enough to give me another shot at the position so I don’t think that I screwed up too badly last time. I think that I’ll just be myself and hopefully I’ll be better than my competition. I have improved my skills since I last interviewed by getting Network+ certified. Maybe this will push me over the hump.

I’ve also got some applications and resumes floating around with different companies that have yet to close the positions that they are advertising for. I’m pretty sure that I’ll get at least two, maybe three more interviews from these. But even if I don’t, Goldman Sachs still wants me so I’m not too terribly concerned. Something good is coming. I can feel it.
