I have gotten serious about looking for a job. My goal is to have something new by August which doesn’t seem too far fetched at this point.
I received an email regarding my interview with Goldman Sachs a couple of days ago. It lead me to believe that they will be making me an offer this week. I’m guessing that I should hear something tomorrow.
Today I interviewed for a position in the IT security department at IHC. It went really well and I think that I nailed it.
I have a bit of a dilemma now though. IF I get both jobs, what one should I take. The Goldman Sachs position pays more and I’ll learn a lot of new things plus it fits in with my current skill set but it is only a guaranteed six month contract. It likely would last longer but there’s no guarantee that I’ll have a job at Christmas.
The IHC position pays a quite a bit less but it’s permanent. Permanent jobs are getting hard to come by in the IT industry so that’s a big positive. I’ll also be working in security which is what my emphasis in my degree is (or will be) in. I’ll be out of my comfort zone and surrounded by what sounds like a very strong, competent team. That’s a bit intimidating for me since right now I pretty much call the shots at work for the rest of my team. I’ll be the village idiot and that scares me.
Holly and my step-mom, Emmy, both work for IHC. They really enjoy it so I know that it would be a good place to work and I could potentially have a very long career there assuming that the village idiot in me doesn’t come out too much.
Right now neither job has actually been offered so I can put off making any decisions for now but I have the feeling that I’ll have to make this decision by the end of next week.

Or if neither one of them pan out, you can come work with me if I get that new job I interviewed for.
This is such a neat thing—this is the first time I have gotten a chance to look at your site but I am impressed. It is neat to see some of the talents you do have and are willing to share.
I missed the boat—are you looking for a different job because it is time to move on or did the other job lay people off?
Sharon,
I’m looking for a new job because I need a change. I have been offered different positions at my current job but I don’t want to make a career of answering telephones. I prefer doing computer work myself as opposed to telling people what to do.
