Holly thinks that I’m nuts. (No pun intended on that one.) She doesn’t understand why a group of television viewers, myself included, would fight so hard to keep a TV show on the air. For me, Jericho being taken off of the air is more than just a TV show that got canceled. It’s about making a stand and telling television networks that I’m tired of the crap that they put out. Nearly every time I get involved with a show, especially serial dramas, they get canceled and replaced with complete garbage. I’m sick of it.
I know that a few days ago when I posted my thoughts on the cancellation of Jericho, the hits on the site went higher than they ever have so obviously somebody is interested in this. Much to Holly’s chagrin, I’ve decided to post an update for those who haven’t been following the events of this rebellion against CBS.
NutsOnline.com got involved and has since shipped more than five tons of nuts to CBS headquarters. They still have nearly two tons that are waiting to be shipped. The media seems to picking up on this and getting the word out but it’s still not enough. CBS has accepted the deliveries and has stated that they’ll be sending the nuts to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and donating them to homeless shelters. At least they’re getting some good PR out of this debacle.
The Rangers, as the Jericho fans have taken to calling themselves, have continued to pound CBS on all fronts. This is being treated as a war which is appropriate given how the show ended. They are bombarding the phone lines, fax machines, and email servers with complaints. And I’m guessing that when you factor in all of the nuts, letters, and postcards, the CBS mail room probably doesn’t have much space left for David Letterman’s mailbag.
At this point, I’m wondering to myself how CBS can decide to keep Jericho off of the fall schedule and not have it look bad. So far, there hasn’t been any real solid responses but it appears as though the executives are on the ropes. There have been quite a few people post theories on how CBS should respond but the majority seem to think that the only thing that CBS can do is to bring it back for one more season even if it’s a Lost-ish shortened season. You can read a couple of my favorites here and here.

Hi Jeremiah,
I just want to thank you again for the feedback on our blog and sourcing our Seven Solutions For CBS piece. I really believe if they took the time to think about it, it might work. With the fans about to run an ad in Variety and the nut count continuing, I can only hope CBS might have a change of heart.
All my best,
Rich
Rich,
I totally agree. CBS is sitting on a PR goldmine here. They need to pick up the ball and run with it.
