For the past few months, Holly has been talking about how Hannah needs to get her own bed and how she’d like to get Alex a new bedroom set. She has also mentioned that since we don’t have the basement finished yet with a fourth bedroom that Alex should share a room with one of the girls.
Last week Holly found a nice bedroom set for Alex’s room. That night, she tried putting Alex in his new bed and Hannah in Alex’s old bed. Needless to say, we were all up until after 10:00. Hannah didn’t want to sleep in the bed and so she was up getting into everything. Alex saw this as an excuse to not go to sleep so he was getting into everything that Hannah had missed. We finally put Hannah back in her crib and came to the realization that she’s in no big hurry to get out of it. She’s the baby and likes it that way.
Since Hannah and Alex in the same room didn’t work the way Holly had hoped, we tried putting Emma in with him. That worked great… if the objective was to have kids jumping on the bed and screaming and laughing and making Mom and Dad angry.
I think that the best option is to keep doing what we were doing. Put Hannah to bed before Emma so that she is asleep and then keep Alex alone in his room. I’m going to try it tonight and see how that goes. Hopefully the kids will fall back into the familiar routine without much resistance.
