Yesterday Alex turned three-years-old. In celebration of his birthday, he decided that he wanted to go see Shrek the Third and eat lunch at McDonald’s.
We went and picked up the movie tickets about an hour and a half before the movie actually started and then went to get some lunch. The kids all had fun eating their Happy Meals while Holly and I went elsewhere for food. Once it was time, we headed over to the theater and found our seats. I was amazed how un-busy the movie was. This is supposed to be a summer blockbuster but there were no long lines and it was easy to find a good seat.
Once the movie started, I understood why there weren’t a lot of people there: it wasn’t that great of a film. It was OK but not great. It seemed a bit forced in parts and slow in others. There were a few good laughs but nothing like the first two Shrek films. It just didn’t meet my expectations. We all had a lot of fun though.
Today we opened Alex’s presents and had cake. Holly prefers to bake birthday cakes herself so she did that. We picked up a play rug and some toy cars for his present. He’ll really have fun playing with them. I think that Emma may enjoy them a bit more than Alex though.
